Play Ball!!!

Hey Folks,

Just thought we might organize our thoughts, the summer sporting events are just starting.

I talked with my brother Ryan and made him go out and throw a few balls to my daughter; he used to play a little baseball in high school. Just a little. I moved back here for several reasons but one of them was that my six brothers and father could stand in whenever my only child needed that fatherly advice. My negative attitude about sports is not conducive to the; “You can excel at anything honey if you put your mind to it. ” values that I’m supposedly trying to raise her with. Failing miserably as of late, with my woeful stories of life on the bench and quitting because I never got to play. (Does anyone remember that it got so bad during JV volleyball that I used to sneak magazines and m&ms out and put them under the last bench seat so I would have something to do during the games? Good times.)

So anyway, the two of them were out there for about an hour and both came in sweaty and reddened. Apparently my girl has a “cannon” of an arm and he advised her that she would proabably do best as a short stop or on 2nd base. (Did I say that right?) That is helpful… brothers are good. Thank you Ryan, you made her summer and she is so proud of herself now and really wants to do the things “Uncle Buddy” taught her.

I’m coming around…..sports have their (or is it “has it’s”?) place. I’ll admit to that much at this point.

Keep the stories coming. Let’s put in stats and all of that. I have no idea how to interpret them but someone else might know…I concede that it’s possible.

Brag about your intermurals or about your kid’s games, I give you permission to even talk about T-ball.

Let us know when there’s a big game coming up and maybe we can all show up and create a posse for your kid!!!

  1. Hey all,

Okay so tonight was supposed to be the first game of the season and it got canelled, but we managed to find a team that wants to scrimmage with us in Dodge. So off we go.

She’s really enjoying the practices so far and I am baraged with endless; “You shoulda seen my hit today Mom! It went really far!” Maybe I can change my thinking and accept that “sports” have their place in a child’s development. Okay, so I admit, it’s about variety and I’m looking forward to the games. Any chance to sit outside and relax should be time I cherish because that so rarely is the case. I can change my attitude, it’s possible, you just need to give me time.

Now, if some dumbass decides to drink and start yelling at the little girls, I might have to get up in his shit and correct him, but otherwise I’m looking forward to these sporting events.

    Play ball!

  2. Okay, so the first half of the first inning took 30 minutes! I have to admit, I dozed for a little while and some of the other mothers were ribbing me about reading during the game. What? Is that inappropriate? I’ll try harder next time….wait….that’s tonight.

North Bend won the scrimmage. Way to go ladies!!!!

  3. The 10 and under girls had their first official game last night and they won! 8-0! My daughter was at bat twice and the pitcher hit her on the first pitch both times so she got to walk both times. It was riveting.

She contributed one run to the 8 total and did a mighty hellish job as a third base person. It’s a good spot for her because the third base is right in front of the visitor’s dug out and she can easily entertain the opposing team with her tapdancing routines in between pitches.

The other girls did very well also. Ha Ha! On to Arlington on Thursday.

  4. This past Wednesday, the girls made the trip to Arlington. Amazing set up in Arlington but we were facing the sun and I didn’t appreciate that if anyone cares.

    They won again: 6-2!!!

I would like, at this time, to recognize all pitchers. What an incredible responsibility! Great job Mariah and Cassidy!!!!

To all of the little girls that piled into my car to and from. What’s with the squealing? And where do you put all of that pop and food in those tiny little bodies? And, sorry Cassidy, about the derogatory comments surrounding country music…I should be a more open-minded adult but…I just can’t listen to it and not feel depressed….and we were having so much fun…so maybe next time I’ll give it another shot.

Next Tuesday, we treck to Tekamah. Can’t wait.
